Facts about Reindeer

Reindeer are medium-sized animals from the deer family. They live in cold areas in the north, like tundra and forest regions.

They have thick fur to keep them warm and wide hooves that help them walk easily on snow. Both males and females have antlers. They lose their antlers every year and grow new ones. Antlers are used for protection and for showing strength.

Reindeer can travel very long distances during migration, sometimes hundreds of kilometres. In winter, they dig through the snow to find food. They are one of the few deer species that look for food under the snow.

Reindeer are part of our Christmas and New Year stay in Swedish Lapland.
