Three days in Swedish Lapland
Polar Hop is three days and two nights in a Swedish family house near Vidsel, with breakfast and dinner every day, 2 hours of snowmobiling per person, a reindeer farm, the aurora hunt, the frozen Gulf of Bothnia and a hike to the Storforsen rapids. We meet you at Skellefteå Airport and take you back there. You book your own flight: Ryanair flies from Gdańsk to Skellefteå on Saturdays and Mondays, which is why the dates are fixed.
On the snow
2 hours of snowmobiling per person. Your group rides together on the trails local people use. A Swedish snowmobile licence is not required: riding with our guide covers it.
A reindeer farm. You visit a farm and meet the animals.
On the ice, on foot and at night
A drive on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia and a walk across the ice to an island. We go out on the ice only when it holds. If it is closed, you get another activity instead, at no extra cost.
A hike to the Storforsen rapids.
An aurora hunt. The visibility of the aurora depends on the weather and we cannot guarantee it. We watch the sky and the forecast for you, and when the lights appear we go out with you.
Shopping time.
The Surströmming challenge, if you want it: who can stand next to an open can of fermented herring the longest? It is optional.
Your house
A real Swedish family house near Vidsel.
Each house sleeps six to eight. Groups are 1 to 8 guests.
The houses belong to local owners with whom we work. We reserve the house for you and settle with the owner.
Meals
Breakfast and dinner every day of your stay, in generous portions.
Allergies or particular preferences? Let us know before you arrive, and we will plan accordingly.
How we plan
Weather in Lapland is hard to predict, and forecasts are often wrong. Your hours on the snow are fixed, but not the day on which each ride takes place.
Each evening, we decide the following day together. You go out when conditions are right and stay in when they are not.
A candid word
These are real activities, and they carry some risk.
Snowmobiling is physical. Falls happen. We take every care that nobody is hurt, although the occasional bruise is possible. First-time riders should also expect sore muscles the next day.
Included on every ride
- Snowmobiles with heated handlebars and footrests
- Warm winter suits
- Helmets, goggles, gloves and balaclavas

- Safety training before you ride
Guests and requirements
- Drivers must be 18 or older and hold a valid category A or B driving licence.

Getting here
Skellefteå Airport (SFT) is about 2 hours 10 minutes from Vidsel by car in winter. Transfers from and to the airport are included in the price.
Flights are not included. Ryanair flies between Gdańsk and Skellefteå on Saturdays and Mondays. Tickets start at 85€ return, which is 42.50€ one way per person, and fares change with the date and the seats left.
Tell us your flight times in the booking form, and we plan the transfers around them.
Drinks
We do not serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own.
In Sweden, anything stronger than 3.5% is sold only at Systembolaget, the state shop. Vidsel has none; however, the Tempo shop in the village sells beer up to 3.5%.
Systembolaget in Älvsbyn, Skolgatan 27, lies on the road from the airport. It is open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 14:00, and closed on Sunday.
Price
497€ per person for a group of 4 to 8, tax included
789€ per person for a group of 3
1194€ per person for a group of 2
2188€ for one person
The price covers three days and two nights, with transfers from and to Skellefteå Airport. Flights are not included.
Smaller groups pay more per person because the house and the guide cost the same.

Booking and payment
Your deposit is the accommodation part (320€ per house) plus 30% of the rest of the price. It secures your dates. You can also pay the full price when you book.

The balance is paid by card on the day of arrival.
Guests need their own travel and activity insurance covering everything booked with us.
What we need from you to book
- First and last name, date of birth and country of residence of every guest
- Telephone number and email of the lead guest
- Flight times, arrival and departure
- Allergies: who, and which
- Health restrictions, especially joint, back or bone conditions

Questions guests ask
Can we book if none of us has ridden before?
Certainly. Every tour begins with safety training, and a guide rides with you throughout.
May our teenagers drive?
No. Nobody under 18 drives with us. They ride as passengers and join every tour.
Do we all have to ride at the same time?
Yes. The 2 hours per person are used by your group together, on rides we plan with you each evening.
What happens if the weather turns?
We move the activity to another day. That is why we plan each evening rather than months ahead.
Will we see the northern lights?
The visibility of the aurora depends on the weather and cannot be guaranteed 100%. We watch for it every night, and we let you know when it appears.
What if the ice on the sea is closed?
You get another activity instead, at no extra cost.
Who books the flights?
You do. Ryanair flies from Gdańsk to Skellefteå and back on Saturdays and Mondays, from 85€ return per person. We meet you at the airport.
Can we book for one or two people?
Yes. The price per person is higher for smaller groups because the house and the guide cost the same.
What if someone cannot take part in an activity?
Please tell us before booking, and we will see what can be adjusted.
What should we wear?
We provide suits, helmets, goggles, gloves and balaclavas. For the rest, see what to wear on a snowmobile tour at -25 °C.
