Do You Need a Licence to Drive a Snowmobile in Sweden?

Short answer: no, you do not need a Swedish förarbevis to join a snowmobile tour in Swedish Lapland. If you ride with a guide, our tour covers you. You do not need to apply for anything before you arrive.

What You Actually Need

You need to be at least 18 years old. You need a valid driving licence, category A or B, from your home country. Before the tour starts, our guide gives everyone a short skills check on a quiet stretch of snow. If you pass, you ride. Most first-timers pass without any trouble.

What About Passengers?

Passengers can join from age 6. A child always rides with a parent or with one of our guides, never alone.

So What Is a Förarbevis, Then?

A förarbevis is the Swedish snowmobile permit. You only need one if you plan to drive a snowmobile on your own, without a guide, off a marked tour route. On a guided snowmobile tour, our licence and our guide take care of that requirement for you. Our licence covers you the whole way.

We Always Ride With a Guide

Every tour we run includes a guide. This is not an add-on and it is not optional. It is built into the price of every snowmobile tour we sell.

What If Someone in the Group Has Never Ridden Before?

This is usually the question that decides whether a group books or not. The honest answer: it does not matter. Most of our guests have never sat on a snowmobile before. The pre-tour training covers throttle, brake, and turning, and your guide rides at the front of the group the whole time, setting the pace. Your guide never leaves anyone behind.

If someone in your group is worried about this, send them this article. It usually settles it.
